Virus Information

It is important to protect yourself from computer viruses.

Here are some tips to help you do this:

  • Install a virus protection software on your computer.
  • Scan all emails, disks and downloads prior to opening or copying them to your computer.
  • Update your software (computer viruses are created on a daily basis and the version of your software may not always be adequate enough to protect your computer).
  • Program your software to automatically scan your computer for viruses.
  • Backup the information on your computer's hard drive on a regular basis.
  • Be wary of computer programs ending in .exe .doc .xls .js .vbs, especially if they come in a chain mail or joke message.
  • Don’t open e-mail attachments unless you are expecting them. Be wary of messages and attachments, even from people you know, with vague subject lines and contents, such as “Check this” or “I Love You”.
  • Do not download files from an unquestionable source.
  • Here are some links to virus software available online.
